The largest organ in out body is our
skin, millions of cells flake off daily and are replaced with new cells. As we
age, old skin cells are not replaced as fast as they used to when we were
younger. Dark spots form, lines, wrinkles start to appear. Chemical peels are
effective way in rejuvenating the skin and restoring it is luster.
How does it work?
Chemical peels work by controlling and speeding
up the shedding process of the damaged cell again. This process could tighten
the skin and minimize fine wrinkles and lines. It also could clear some sun
spots, freckles and dark pigmentation.
How is Chemical
peel done?
Chemical peel is done by applying a mild acid to the surface of the skin. This
stimulates the production of new healthy cells. In the process the skin sheds
the old cells off. This process was used for 100 of years.
What does the treatment
feel like?
Chemical peels can be performed on the face,
chest, neck, arms, hands and even on the legs.
Chemical peels are done on
an outpatient basis. Dr. Mamari will decide the best solution to use. Or he
could a mix of acids (Glycolic acid, beta acid, Jessner, Trichloroacetic acid.)
This solution is applied to different parts of the skin depending on the desired
effect. You will have sun burn like sensation by the time the process is
completed that could last from a few minutes to a few hours based on your
treatment.
What is the
recovery like?
A light peel results in mild redness for less than one hour. A deeper and
stronger peel could results in crusting and skin turning brown before it
completely peels a week later. Skin ointments may be needed with chemical peels
for optimal healing and recovery. Following the peeling process, the new skin
will be smoother, younger appearing and tighter.
What limitation do I have after the treatment?
You should not abuse the sun for at least a week
with moderate to deep peels. A wide spectrum sun block is recommended. Dr.
Mamari will also advise you how to take care of your skin to minimize future
aging process.
